Introduction

Globalization along with major advancements in technology has helped break down communication barriers and bring people closer together from all corners of the globe. Whether you are contemplating a change of career or simply vacationing, basic knowledge of a foreign language will always prove useful.

 

French, commonly referred to as 'the language of love' is spoken by more than 200 million people worldwide and France continues to be one of the world's leading economies. In Trinidad and Tobago as well as the wider Caribbean, French influence remains evident in our language and many aspects of our culture. It is therefore important to preserve our historical legacy and share it with future generations. Knowledge of the French language can also help you gain access to a world of new experiences and opportunities as it relates to travel, higher education and business.

 

This course gradually introduces participants to basic French conversation through a series of interactive sessions that incorporates the use of audio-visual aids, fun activities and games.

 

What do I need for this course?

  • A passion for language learning and other cultures

NB: This course is intended for persons with minimal/no knowledge of the French Language.

 

Who should attend?

The following entities and individuals would benefit significantly from this practical and interactive training workshop:

  • Anyone interested in learning French as a second language
  • Those who love to travel and experience new cultures

 

What am I going to learn?

  • To engage in basic French conversation
  • To use key French expressions in everyday scenarios

 

Course Content

Upon completion of this introductory course, students will gain a better understanding of the following skills in French:

  • Introducing yourself and someone else
  • Greeting someone in a formal and informal context
  • Forming simple sentences
  • Asking and replying to questions
  • Expressing desire
  • Speaking in the negative
  • Using the past, present and future tenses
  • Using essential verbs in French
  • Asking for and giving directions
  • Expressing quantities and telling time

 

Weekly Challenges

There will be four (4) major activities (1 per week) intended to test each student's knowledge of the course content in a light, fun way.

 

Continuous Assessment

Students will be required to complete a variety of individual and group exercises to apply skills and knowledge acquired during class sessions.

 

Certification

Students will receive a Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of the course.

The Facilitator

Samantha Dinchong BA, Samantha is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine who holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies with a minor in French. Over the course of her studies, she has travelled to Guadeloupe and France to further develop her proficiency in French. She currently works in the oil and gas sector in the field of Corporate Communications and remains passionate about the French lifestyle and culture. She enjoys sharing the language with others and continues to expand her range of interests.
