Payroll is a significant company expense and is subject to various legislation, so the organization must ensure that the payroll process is accurate and reliable. Accurate payroll processing benefits not only the company but also the employees and third parties who rely on the payroll system for payment.


This course focuses on the various elements of income tax legislation and includes numerous workshops on calculating employees' pay and employers' payments such as VAT, green fund and business levy.

Target Audience:
This course is ideal for persons who are responsible for the payroll function in any organization as well as small business owners or persons wishing to start their own company or persons interested in knowing about payroll and taxation or wishing to calculate their own tax.

  • Introduction to Time Sheet
  • Calculation of hourly wages and overtime
  • Completion of Time Sheet



  • Introduction to Health Surcharge (H/S) and NIS
  • Calculation of H/S and NIS rates
  • Weekly payroll
  • Monthly payroll
  • Pay slips


The PAYE System 

  • Introduction to PAYE
  • Calculation of PAYE
  • Completing a Payroll with PAYE Deductions

Completion of Tax Forms

  • Filling out and completing NIB Forms (NI 184 & NI 187)
  • Filing out the BIR Form - (Payment Description Slip)
  • Completing the TD4 Form

Value Added Tax (VAT)

  • Introduction to VAT
  • Understanding VAT
  • VAT Calculation
  • VAT payable and refundable
  • Completion of the VAT Return Form

Green Fund and Business Levy

  • Introduction to Green Fund and Business Levy
  • Calculation of Green Fund and Business Levy

Ethics and Motivation


Mock Exam

Students would be allowed to do a mock exam. The purpose of the mock exam is to prepare the student for the final exam and review the topics covered in the course.


Final Exam

All students are required to sit a written final exam. A certificate of completion will be awarded to all students who have passed the examination.

Fees payable to CTS College is TT$1,000.00.  Payments can be made via cash, credit card, linx or cheque. A payment plan is available.



Mrs. Reena Ragbir Gunness

Mrs. Gunness has completed studies in Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, Finance and Marketing. She is the holder of a BA (Hons) Degree in Business Management with over ten years working experience in Accounting, Management, Administration and Customer Service.


Mrs. Gunness is currently a full time teacher and believes that her true purpose in life is to educate and uplift others through teaching; her students could attest to this as they have always praise her for her patience and excellent delivery of the course.


Mrs. Gunness enjoys teaching, motivating and encouraging her students to excel and succeed in their chosen endeavour. Imparting her skills and knowledge to her students is her main objective. She also offers career guidance to individuals seeking assistance in choosing a career to pursue.
