If you have an eye for detail and a passion for weddings, you can become part of an exciting profession by attending this program geared towards training the Wedding planner/Consultant. The course prepares students for an entry-level career as Wedding Planner/consultant and is ideal for persons who are planning their own wedding.

What Am I Going To Learn?

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Recognize the wedding industry and the skills needed to handle the demands of being a wedding planner or consultant and identify how these skills apply to the tasks needed during the planning process from the initial meeting with clients to determining the wedding theme and settings etc.
  • Understand how to coordinate every detail of events, from beginning to end by recognizing the scope of the event, including time, location, and cost of working with the client. Choosing event venue, service contractors (for example, florists, photographers and caterers etc.), rooms, transportation, and confer with on-site staff to coordinate details.
  • Identify how to organize and conduct wedding ceremonies and receptions by reviewing places to ensure they meet the client's requirements and recognize the various types of wedding ceremonies and etiquette to share with a client.
  • Development of agendas, budgets, and services according to customer requirements; recognize how to charge clients and collect payments; set up bookkeeping and files, inventory and billing control. Also, how to use appropriate business forms and understand strategies for organizing and managing your home office.
  • Recognize how to monitor event activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and laws, satisfaction of participants, and resolution of any problems that arise.

 

Introduction to Wedding Planning
Life as a wedding planner/consultant; job skills; different types of wedding elements; the four phases of the planning process; pros and cons of owning your own business; keys to a successful business.

 

The Role of a Wedding Planner/Consultant
General planning for weddings, skills and qualities of a consultant/wedding planner; aspects of networking; phone and email etiquette; techniques for a client-centered business.

 

Wedding Ceremonies, Customs, and Traditions
Order of religious wedding ceremonies; religious and cultural traditions surrounding a wedding; special circumstance weddings; directing a wedding rehearsal; pros and cons of reception sites; seating arrangements for ceremonies and receptions; traditional components of a reception.

 

Wedding Etiquette
Wedding expense responsibilities; guest lists; wedding invitations and announcements; tasks assigned to members of the wedding party; rules for pre-wedding parties, showers, and rehearsal dinners; writing and sending thank-you notes; planning remarriages and vow renewals.

 

Basics of a Bridal Business
Establishing yourself as a professional; charging clients and collecting payments; bookkeeping and business files; recordkeeping; assembling a planning team; working with suppliers; basic marketing concepts; conducting market research.

 

Professional Wedding Vendors and Services
Tradition and protocol of wedding gifts; selecting music for a ceremony; selecting a florist; traditional bouquet shapes and styles; proper attire for formality and time of day; catering services; wedding cake options; selecting a photographer or videographer.

 

The Business of Weddings, Part 1

Starting a business; elements of a business plan; mission statements; startup expenses.

Site Inspection with Class: Conducting a Site Inspection.

 

Ethnic and Specialty Weddings
Identifying the protocol for military weddings; finding sources of information on Victorian and Renaissance weddings; understanding the background of ethnic and military customs; gay marriages and unions.

 

The Business of Weddings, Part 2
Advertising; how much to charge; developing a contract; understanding why brides buy; keeping clients; dealing with dissatisfied brides; vendors.

 

Negotiating with Clients
Determining how much to charge; fee structures; analyzing costs to reduce spending; negotiating fees with prospective clients; handling mistakes in bids; making agreements; increasing your income.

 

Multimedia Marketing – Group Project Assignment
Developing a marketing plan with the right mix of media; print advertising; Web sites; blogs; online networking; video and other media.

 

How to Participate in a Bridal Show
Initial planning considerations; choosing the right expo for you; developing and designing a booth; marketing your participation; selling at a booth; following up on contacts.

 

The Home-Based Business
Pros and cons of a home-based business; planning your office; time management; organization; establishing a work-life balance.

Final Examination

 

The course combines a number of teaching techniques including lectures, guest lectures by persons who specify in the various areas of wedding planning stages, class discussions, group work assignments, oral presentations, role playing, evaluations of actual real life events and projects.

 

Each student will be required to plan a wedding (either real wedding/demo wedding or work with an actual wedding planner). This includes determining a theme, setting objectives, briefing couple and other related parties, developing a checklist, project management, outsourcing of caterers, decorators, entertainment, venue, bar and other necessities, budgeting, evaluation strengths, weaknesses, potential risks and contingencies' in planning for the wedding.

 

Oral Presentation

Each student will be required to deliver oral presentations as part of this class.

 

Weekly Group Projects

Upon commencement of this class students will be required to form groups to research and complete group work in wedding planning and consultancy and this will further help to develop their team working capabilities as more than likely every wedding planner is required to have a team to successfully plan and execute any wedding or event. Students will be evaluated on the basis of content and individual presentation and performance of the group.

 

Plan a wedding

Each student will be required to plan a wedding (real wedding or Demo) from start to end and prepare a presentation.

The Facilitator

Mr. Sohan Badall

Sohan Badall is a Certified Events Manager (George Washington University Graduate), with experience in Events Production, Concerts and events management, Wedding Planning and Pageant Productions. Mr. Badall have been in the Wedding Industry as a Wedding Planner and Bridal Stylist for the past six (6) years and have done weddings locally and internationally as well. He has a unique sense of style, ability to construct and facilitate organized teams, interface with public agencies, and network with key stakeholders to produce a variety of weddings and events.

 

Mr. Badall have successfully produce weddings and styled brides from all walks of life and socio-economic standing both in Trinidad and Tobago and abroad. In addition, he has successfully managed, planned and produced Miss Global TNT Pageant from 2012-2015, Miss Global Guyana Pageant at Pegasus Guyana 2013-2015 and managed, planned, hosted and executed the Miss Global International Pageant right here in Trinidad and Tobago. The last event included hosting beauty queens and their entourage from 45 countries around the world for one week. Mr. Badall volunteers at several Non-Profit Organizations, working with the homeless, education for the less fortunate as well as cultural programs for youths.

 

Mr. Badall is also popularly known for his career as a professional makeup artist and stylist, a budding fashion designer who represented Trinidad and Tobago at Guyana's Fashion Week 2016 and is the founder, manager, choreographer and lead dancer of D'Sargam Dance Company which he founded in the year 2012 and have performed on many stages locally and internationally. He is an advocate for the right to proper education, social change and basic human rights and functions as a voice for segments of society that have been suppressed due to norms. He currently manages Sohan's Bridal & Catering Services, D' Sargam Dance Company, House of Elegance by: Sohan and in his spare time is currently working on writing his own book "Dancing to My Own Beat".
