Event Management
Course Objectives:
This is an introductory course in the field of Event Management. The course is constructed in a multifaceted way so as to develop the students’ creative thinking, resource management, problem solving, conflict management and decision making skills. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to develop written proposals, contracts and a banquet event order for their respective clients. Design Food and Beverage menus to suit the needs of the market. Perform calculations related to event pricing, cost control and profitability. Determine the staffing requirements for various catered events. Create floor plans for functions using computer software. Identify legal issues relating to event management. Design a comprehensive sales kit using information technology and understand event marketing, public relations and event risks.

Exams and Assessments:
The course combines a number of teaching techniques including lectures, guest lectures by those with special competences in sub fields, class discussions, group work assignments, oral presentations, role playing, evaluations of actual real life events and projects.
Each student will be required to plan for an event (this includes setting objectives, briefing management, developing a checklist, project management, budgeting, marketing and evaluation strengths, weaknesses, potential risks and contingencies’ in planning for events).
Oral Presentation: Each student will be required to deliver oral presentations as part of this class.
Group Research Project: Upon commencement of this class students will be required to form groups to research and complete group work in Events Management team building exercises’ Students will be evaluated on the basis of content and individual presentation and performance of the group.

The Facilitator
TEOCAH ARIEL AINKA DOVE Ms Dove is the CEO/ Creative Director/Producer of Hacoet Multimedia Productions Ltd. She holds degrees in Journalism and Public Relations and Media and Communications. Ms Dove has worked in several capacities on events such as the 2008 COTT Awards, 2010 Cacique Awards, the 2009 5th Summit of the America’s and Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting as well as films for UNICEF/MTV and music videos for Shurwayne Winchester, Destra Garcia and Patrice Roberts just to name a few. Ms Dove is at present producing a film series entitled TRUTH set to commence shooting in 2012.
