CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)

Audience

Technicians, Network & System Administrators and those interested in fixing Network problems

Course Objectives:

The Cisco CCNA network associate certification validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN. This curriculum includes basic mitigation of security threats, introduction to wireless networking concepts and terminology, and performance-based skills. The curriculum also includes (but is not limited to) the use of these protocols: IP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Serial Line Interface Protocol Frame Relay, Routing Information Protocol Version 2 (RIPv2), VLANs, Ethernet, access control lists (ACLs)

Exams:

The CNNA may be pursued in either of two ways, both of which lead to the award of the CCNA certification:

  1. Two separate exams ICND1 (640-822) and ICND2 (640-816). This method simply fractures the entire syllabus content into two manageable modules which the candidates do as separate exams. CCNA is awarded on completion of both exams.

  2. One exam CCNA (640-802). Candidates complete the entire syllabus and write only one exam to earn the CCNA certification.

COST: Generally US$295 for the one exam (640-802).   The fee may vary slightly depending on the testing centre (CTS is a Testing Centre)

Book:

Name: CCNA: Cisco Certified Network Associate Study Guide: Exam 640-802
Author: Todd Lammle

Prerequisities:

Although there are no formal prerequisites, candidates are expected to have a reasonable level of proficiency in the fields of hardware and software troubleshooting. Consequently the CompTIA A+ certification will be an asset but not a requirement. Work experience in a networking environment is an asset.
