Why Study a BBA?

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) is an in-demand degree highly valued by employers in a range of industries. It gives students a solid background in business and management by equipping students with a broad-based business understanding and skill set that is applicable to the workplace and beneficial to the graduate. The BBA programme prepares students for current and future leadership roles by particularly helping them develop analytical, decision making, interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills. The BBA provides a solid foundation from which students can pursue postgraduate studies in a range of business and management disciplines, including AIB’s 12 Month MBA.

This programme has been officially recognised by the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) and it is also GATE approved.

 

 

The BBA programme consists of 24 subjects that are divided into three stages offered over 2 years – the Diploma in Management, the Associate Degree in Management and the BBA stage. This gives students the following exit points:

The BBA (Marketing) is designed to provide students with professional applicable knowledge, training and skills to support careers in marketing. It aims at producing expert graduates who are able to understand, develop and implement sophisticated marketing decisions at managerial and executive levels.

The key features of the BBA delivery model are:

  • Weekend workshop delivery
  • Work-oriented learning focus; applying knowledge to the workplace
  • Intensive, practical workshops, facilitated by industry leaders
  • Significant learning material which is industry relevant for each subject
  • A blended academic and practical approach to assessment

 

Students can work full time while they study; and focus on one subject at a time, enabling them to better balance work and study. BBA Students are required to attend four workshops per month for each subject as follows:

  • Three intensive weekend workshops (three days)
  • A one day revision workshop
  • Submit one assignment
  • Undertake one exam

Diploma (Core Subjects)

Students can attempt 8 core subjects in any order. Students may start in any month. Each subject is offered twice per year. It is best practice for students to complete all the Diploma subjects first because they need to complete all these subjects if they wish to exit with a Diploma.

Associate Degree (Elective & Specialisation Subjects)

Students are entitled to obtain an Associate Degree in Management (Associate Degree) after successful completion of 16 subjects, inclusive of 8 core subjects.

Students are entitled to obtain the BBA degree after successful completion of 24 subjects: 8 Core subjects + 14 Elective subjects + Integrated Projects I & II or 8 Core subjects + 6 Specialisation subjects + 8 Elective subjects + Integrated Projects I & II

Integrated Projects

  • The Integrated Projects I and II may be completed only after completing 8 Core subjects and 6 Specialisation subjects or after completing 140 credit points.
  • Depending on their specialisation, students will undertake a project which addresses an issue of strategic or functional importance to an organization of their choice. The projects will need to be in the same area of specialisation as the course specialisation


NB:

In terms of prerequisites:

  • Operations 2 may be completed only after completing Operations 1
  • Entrepreneurship 2 may be completed only after completing Entrepreneurship 1.
  • Selling and Sales Management, International Marketing and Marketing for Tourism and Hospitality may be completed only after completing Marketing Principles and Practice

 

 

The assessment for each subject area is:

  • One examination (worth 75%)
  • One assignment (worth 25%)

Notice: Students cannot pass the subject if they do not pass the examination.

How do I know if I meet the requirements?

There are 2 entry points:

1. To enrol directly into Year 1 of the BBA Programme:

  • Students qualify if they possess either one of the following:
  • 2 GCE A' level passes with a minimum grade C and General Paper or 6 CAPE units, inclusive of double units OR
  • A recognised Certificate or Diploma, i.e. ABE, IAM, CIM, etc. OR
  • Mature entry (a suitable combination of qualifications and work experience).

2. To enrol into TOP-UP BBA Programme:

  • Students need to have a recognised Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree to receive exemptions towards the BBA.

How do I apply?

1. Students enrolling directly into Year 1 of the BBA programme would need to do the following:

  • A completed application form AND
  • The original plus one (1) copy of qualifications, certificates and transcripts.  OR
  • Resume and Job Letter (only if you are using a minimum of 3 years work experience to get in)
  • Application

Please be advised that an application fee of AUD$50.00 is payable upon submission of the application form.

2. Students enrolling into the TOP- UP BBA Programme:

  • A completed application form
  • The original plus one (1) copy of qualifications (Advanced Diploma), certificates and transcripts.
  • One form of identification chosen from National ID card or Birth Certificate or Passport
  • A completed exemption form and the syllabus of the programme you completed (Note: ABE Advanced Diploma holders are not required to provide the syllabus as AIB has already assessed this qualifications for exemption, however you must still complete the exemption form).

Approved applicants can either enrol in the first year of the BBA or, if they received exemptions from AIB, they may enrol in the BBA top-up.

Option 2: Students enrolling into Top-up BBA programme:

The cost of the Top-up BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) programme is based on the number of exemptions given to the candidate, which is in turn based on the previous programme completed.
