Earning CompTIA A+ certification proves that a candidate has a broad base of knowledge and competency in core hardware and operating system technologies including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. This course will prepare you for the examination and provide you with the skills necessary to troubleshoot and repair micro-computer systems and their peripherals.

MODULE 1: A+ CORE HARDWARE SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Installation, Configuration and Upgrading.

Features of the system unit. System boards and expansion cards. Power Supplies. Peripherals. Ports

Diagnosing and Troubleshooting.

Identifying symptoms. Error codes. Develop procedure.

Motherboard/Processors/Memory.

RAM/ROM. Microprocessors. BIOS. Cache.

Printers.

Basic printer operations. Dot Matrix, Inkjet and Laser Printers.

Networking.

Types of LAN. Protocols. Cabling. NIC configuration.

Preventative Maintenance

 

MODULE 2: A+ OPERATING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGIES.

Installation, Configuration and Upgrading.

Partitioning and formatting hard drives. Installing/Upgrading Operating Systems. Installation of peripheral devices.

Diagnosing and Troubleshooting.

Recognizing and identifying problems. Resolve device conflicts. Error messages.

Operating System Fundamentals.

Navigating operating systems. Commands. Memory management. Support files.

Networks.

Identify capabilities of connecting to a network and to an internet service provider.

Linear format; computer-based test (CBT)

Exam Duration

90 minutes to complete each A+ 2003 exam

A+ Core: 515

A+ OS: 505.
