WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AT THE CEREMONY  [Top]

The ceremony is formal in nature, and is an occasion for Graduates to celebrate their success with their family and friends and the CTS College of Business and Computer Science Limited and University of Hertfordshire.

The ceremony will start promptly at 6:00 pm and will last no more than 3 hours.

All graduates are asked to meet at the Cascadia Hotel & Conference Centre at 4:00 pm (2 hours before the starting time).

Graduates and Guests of Graduates with tickets should enter the entrance of the conference room.  An usher will escort the guests to their seats once they present their tickets.

Please take your seat no later than 30 minutes before the start time of the ceremony, in time for the register to be taken. If you are not present at this time, we will assume that you are absent and your name will be removed from the list of graduates in attendance.   It is usual practice to take this register a number of times as it is vital that graduates are seated in the correct place.

Graduates will be assigned a seat number on their ticket.  You will be seated in the order of how you will be presented and you may only sit in your named, reserved seat with your fellow graduates. You will not be seated with your guests until after the ceremony. You will find a programme with your name on it on your seat to indicate your place.

At the beginning of the awards ceremony, everybody will be asked to stand while the Academic Procession enters the conference room. The Academic procession is comprised of members of the Academic Board and Faculty staff led by the Secretary & Registrar (or nominee), who carries the University of Hertfordshire mace, and followed by the Vice-Chancellor.

There will be an opening address by the presiding officer and at most ceremonies, a presentation of a Fellowship or Honorary Degree.

The presentation of degrees will commence. Graduates are presented by their respective Chair or senior member of their Board of Examiners, Head of Department or the Dean of Faculty. Awards are presented firstly in hierarchical order within a department and then in alphabetical order by surname. Ushers/Staff from the CTS College of Business and Computer Science Limited will guide you from your seat to stand at the bottom of the stage and will guide you onto the stage when your name is read out. Please do not carry anything with you onto the stage as you will shake the hand of the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor or Pro Chancellor and receive your certificate.

You will be assisted from the stage and guided to walk across the stage and return to your seat.

We respectfully ask you to remain quiet in your seat while the presentation continues for your fellow graduates.

Once all Graduates have been presented with their awards, there will be a closing address by a member of the platform party, followed by a vote of thanks by a selected Graduate.

This marks the conclusion to the formal proceedings and you will be asked to stand while the Academic processions are seated at their dinner table.

A toast will be make to the graduation class of 2007.
